I'm getting a permission error

You are trying to do something your role does not allow. Check What user roles exist and what can each do? and ask your Firm Principal to change your role or make the change for you.

Common examples: Access Denied on a compliance page (Firm Principal only), Only firm principals can change these settings (Notetaker settings), and Could not update role (Firm Principal only).
